A Shift in Season: Functional Transitions, Library Access, & Local Class

In this newsletter:

  • Reflections from students
  • Library Membership + Ongoing Classes
  • 1:1 options
  • A new 8 week in person series starts Thursday, March 19th.

“Your expertise is tremendous, and that, combined with your kindness, thoughtfulness, and gentle humor, makes for classes that I really look forward to participating in each week.”

Reclaiming Strength and Ease: A Look at Our Current Series

Our spring series are currently in full swing, and it has been a joy to witness the shifts occurring in our community. We are currently running two distinct paths that both converge on the idea of functional transitions—learning how to move through the world with more power and less strain.

You can always join any series already in progress and easily catch up with high-quality recordings of the sessions you missed. Many students actually prefer starting this way, as it allows them to pause, rewind, and find their footing at their own pace.

  • The Feldenkrais Series: "Grace Under Pressure": In this series, we’ve been shifting our focus from small, subtle movements to dynamic, large-scale transitions. We are exploring how the skeleton is designed to handle force and momentum, making tasks like getting up from the floor feel more coordinated.
  • The Yoga + Feldenkrais Blend - Functional Transitions: This series is currently diving into the movements we often take for granted —the transitions between poses and the path from the floor to standing. By reconnecting with primary developmental patterns, students are finding a new sense of stability and balance in their practice.

What Students Are Saying:

"The class last Monday was spot-on, helping me to see how my body can best do a basic task—getting up. That is a task we all need to do, and with an injury and age it needs attention and practice to find what works best."

"This class has arrived at a perfect time for me. It's very challenging in some ways, but it is amazingly helpful... Your teaching is the best (cueing, warm up for wrists!, tenderness, humor, etc.), and I couldn't be happier to be working with you again."

"I’m glad to be challenged in a meaningful way."

Whether you are looking to refine your stride or regain confidence after an injury, these classes provide a non-judgmental space to make friends with your body again.

There is a story often told about the anthropologist Margaret Mead. When a student asked her what she considered to be the first sign of civilization in a culture, they expected her to say a clay pot, a fishhook, or a grinding stone. Instead, she reportedly held up a healed femur bone. In the animal kingdom, a broken leg is a death sentence. You cannot run from danger, you cannot get to the river for a drink, and you cannot hunt for food. You are meat for prowling predators. A femur bone that...

Hi everyone, I’ll be honest, trying to run a business right now feels fundamentally wrong. But having heard from enough of you individually, I know how important showing up for you is, now more than ever, so I keep going. For those of you feeling effected by the events in Minneapolis, first, understand what is happening in your own body. Your nervous system cannot distinguish between "this is happening to me" and "this is happening near me". When you watch violence, your brain treats it as a...
