Real Life Functional Transitions
I’ve spent a lot of time lately thinking about how we stay upright when the ground feels like it's shifting and the world feels increasingly destabilizing. In movement, we know that most injuries and 'clunky' feelings happen in the 'space between'—those transitional moments where we lose our center. If it feels like your whole life is happening in that unsettled space, and you are in need of some free nervous system resources, this is a good place to start.

Over the last few Monday morning classes, I’ve been experimenting with something a little bit different: dedicating a small portion of class to exploring functional transitions. Instead of just focusing on a final pose, we started looking at how we get from the floor to standing, how we navigate the space in between, and how we practice balance during functional moments.
The response from students was clear, that these are deeply practical and useful tools to train and improve on.
Because it resonated so much, I’ve decided to make it a soft focus of our next 8-week Yoga & Feldenkrais Blended Series, where we will practice some of the functional transitions we often take for granted, (until they become difficult).
How we move on the mat should change how we move in the world.

Livestream classes will be taught over Zoom
Join us for this unique format, blending the gentle strengthening and deep stretching of Yoga with the intelligent, learning-focused principles of the Feldenkrais Method® to refine your Yoga practice.
These 8 weeks will have a focus on:
- Functional transitions
- Finding stability through coordination, not just muscle
- Ways to move between the floor and standing
- Reconnecting with the primary developmental patterns that support how we move
The emphasis will be on the pathway, not just the destination of a pose.
Students who have made this format their regular routine call it their "weekly maintenance practice" and "meditation and movement combined."
