Why I’m Still Showing Up

Hi everyone,

I’ll be honest, trying to run a business right now feels fundamentally wrong. But having heard from enough of you individually, I know how important showing up for you is, now more than ever, so I keep going.

For those of you feeling effected by the events in Minneapolis, first, understand what is happening in your own body. Your nervous system cannot distinguish between "this is happening to me" and "this is happening near me". When you watch violence, your brain treats it as a direct threat. Your brain will default to doom-scrolling because it's trying to gather threat information. This keeps your nervous system activated, and makes everything worse. This chronic stimulation doesn't just make us tired; it physically changes us. It tightens our breathing, clouds our judgment, and keeps us in a reactive state.

If you are anything like me right now and you are struggling with your tech boundaries, you are not broken, you are appropriately calibrated to reality. The system that expects you to function like everything is fine is what is broken.

With everything happening in Minneapolis right now—the ICE presence, the tension in our streets, the constant ping of community alerts—I’ve found myself reaching for my phone "just to be sure". That drive is amplified by a genuine concern to stay informed for community safety which is incredibly important.

However, our community needs us grounded, not just online.

That’s why I’m so committed to continue with weekly movement classes, but also the work we will be doing in the How to Break Up With Your Phone book support group. We aren't just talking about digital habits; we are learning about our nervous system and how to ground, so we can actually show up for our family and neighbors.

Being addicted to your phone in 2026 isn't a personal flaw—it is a physiological response to a high-stress environment.

Join Us (No Matter Your Budget)

I want this book support group to be available for everyone, and that means financial stress shouldn't be the thing that keeps you away. If you have the financial resources, I invite you to first use them and donate to support Minnesotans. Here is a comprehensive list of options for donating:

One of the goals of this book is to help you take back some of your time, and remember the things that bring you joy in your life. Right now for some of us, that might look like first being able to move from anxiety scrolling to grounded action.

The course is being offered at a sliding scale price of $35 - $125, but if that isn't feasible for you right now, please come anyway. Whether you can pay the full amount, a fraction, or nothing at all, your presence is what matters. I always operate on a "pay-what-you-can" or "scholarship" basis because community resilience shouldn't have a paywall. This is the case for all the upcoming series and is especially true right now. Please email me directly if you need full scholarship assistance for any of the programming below.

HOW TO BREAK UP WITH YOUR PHONE

🔗 Book Support Group
February 15th - March 15th
Sundays @ 5:30pm CST
Livestream on Zoom

I am excited to hold others accountable and be held in accountability with this book and the group that joins. I first engaged with this book last year, after realizing that every morning my brain felt hijacked by my phone, and I am still experiencing the effects from the four week protocol, but I'm really looking forward to a refresher!

Ultimately our practice to change our phone habits will bring us to a place of more presence and self awareness.

WE WILL REFLECT ON:

What are you seeking when you reach for your phone?
What are you avoiding when you reach for your phone?
What can you learn about yourself through your phone habits?
What do you truly want to be paying attention to?

Take the quiz: Are you addicted to your phone?

This support group will be a lot more fun if you do it with other people, so invite a friend, and let’s practice together.

Restoration Through Movement and Mindset

To support this mental shift, I am also launching my next 8-week Yoga + Feldenkrais Blended Series and the Grace Under Pressure Feldenkrais Series. While the book group addresses the digital pull, the movement series address the physical toll.

Both series will focus on functional transitions, each in their own unique way.

In the Feldenkrais series, Grace Under Pressure, we will break down the precise mechanics of moving in and out of the floor. Each lesson will be like a puzzle piece that fits together at the end.

The Blended Series will still have a little bit of everything so you can get in your morning stretch, massage, and functional movement practice, all combined with the learning principles of the Feldenkrais Method®.

BLENDING YOGA & FELDENKRAIS

🔗 Winter/Spring Series
Mondays @ 9am CST
February 9th - March 30th
8 week series
Full calendar of events
Livestream classes will be taught over Zoom

Join us for this unique format, blending the gentle strengthening and deep stretching of Yoga with the intelligent, learning-focused principles of the Feldenkrais Method® to refine your Yoga practice.

These 8 weeks will have a focus on:

  • Ways to move between the floor and standing.
  • Finding stability through organization, not just muscle.
  • Reconnecting with the primary developmental patterns that support how we move.

The emphasis will be on the pathway, not just the destination.

Instead of just "standing up," we break down the weight shifts and spirals required to move from the floor to your feet. By mastering the transition, you eliminate the jerky movements that strain joints and cause trips or falls.

Students who have made this format their regular ritual call it their "weekly maintenance practice" and "meditation and movement combined."

Series Includes:

  • 8 Blended Yoga + Feldenkrais livestream classes
  • Option for post class questions and sharing
  • Recordings automatically available on course page
  • Course recordings available indefinitely

We often shrink our movements to stay 'safe,' but true safety comes from knowing how to use your power. This series is about reclaiming the big, joyful movements of life—getting up from the floor, reaching without strain, and moving through the world with a sense of unstoppable coordination.

In this series, we shift our focus from "small and subtle" to "dynamic and daring." We will explore how your skeleton is designed to handle force, momentum, and large-scale transitions with surprising ease. This isn't about "working out"; it’s about organizing your internal architecture so that your largest movements feel as light as your smallest ones.

“At the end, when we went to stand up, my shoulders felt wider and like I was standing broader. I felt more stable and steady as I stood there." - current Feldenkrais student

I hope to see some of you there. And please reach out if you are in need of some immediate support for your nervous system.

Peace,
Sarah

Hi everyone, When stress levels are high, it’s hard to do our best work—or even just feel like ourselves. Know that your reaction is a physiological one, please be gentle with yourself. Your brain often treats proximity as a personal threat, unable to separate 'near me' from 'to me'. Over time, this chronic activation isn't just tiring—it physically alters how we function, shallowing our breath and impairing our judgment exactly when we need clarity most. I’ve put together some everyday ways...

Real Life Functional Transitions I’ve spent a lot of time lately thinking about how we stay upright when the ground feels like it's shifting and the world feels increasingly destabilizing. In movement, we know that most injuries and 'clunky' feelings happen in the 'space between'—those transitional moments where we lose our center. If it feels like your whole life is happening in that unsettled space, and you are in need of some free nervous system resources, this is a good place to start....

Try a quick moment of noticing with me. Right now, as you read this, notice the position of your head. Is it tilted forward? Are your eyes locked on the screen, pulling your chin toward your chest? The "60-lb" Fact: The average human head weighs about 10–12 lbs. But when we tilt our heads forward at a 60-degree angle to look at a phone, the effective weight on our neck muscles surges to nearly 60 lbs. That’s like carrying a large dog around your neck all day. Our phone habits are physical...
